Chapter 3 Reflection

After reading chapter 3, I realized the best way to understand the potential of Weblogs is to become a blogger. It is important as teachers to model appropriate ways of blogging. According to the book, the best way to start blogging is to start small and become more in depth as you feel more comfortable and confident with blogging. In my own experience, I have noticed that when I first started blogging I was not as confident as I am now. The use of Weblogs can be a great way for teachers to post homework assignments, as well as relevant class material. I feel that the safety of students is very important as students begin blogging. Teachers need to get the proper permission from parents. Teachers also need to teach students the importance of publishing their personal information. I also feel that teachers need to participate in professional development in order to help clarify the uses and purposes of blogs. Professional development should be on-going for teachers throughout their teaching career.
